WordPress project discovery · Scope, price and dates in writing

Scope, price and dates in writing,
before anyone commits.

Discovery is for projects that are too complex to quote from a call: multi-site, multi-language, integrations, bespoke editorial models and procurement-led work. You get the architecture and a fixed price you can take to the board. The fee is credited against the build.

Discovery starts at €1,500 and is credited against the build. Delivery takes two to three weeks.

When Discovery comes first

If any of these is true, quoting from a call would be a guess.

More than one site or languageA group, a network of brands, or locales that need their own content and forms on one platform.

Systems the site has to talk toThe site needs to connect to a CRM, booking engine, product database, jobs board, single sign-on or undocumented API.

An editorial team of more than twoRoles, approvals, templates and a block library designed around how the team actually publishes.

A migration with historyThousands of URLs, years of rankings, and redirects that have to be right on the day.

A procurement processA tender, a security questionnaire or a board paper that needs the architecture and the price written down first.

An uncertain briefThree departments want three different things. Discovery resolves those differences before the scope and price are agreed.

See what you get

A document you can take to the board, or to another agency.

Discovery ends with a written deliverable. It is yours even if another agency builds the project.

ArchitectureThe document covers site structure, content model, templates, block library, integrations, hosting and environments.
ScopeThe scope states what is included, excluded and deferred to a later phase.
Fixed price and datesThe document sets the fixed build price, milestones and delivery dates. The price is valid for 60 days.
Risk registerThe risk register sets out what could go wrong, the likely cost and the planned response.
Migration and redirect planFor an existing site, you get the URL inventory, redirect map and launch sequence.
Acceptance methodHow you will know it is done: the checklist, the testing, who signs off what and when.

How it runs

Four steps from requirements to handover.

01RequirementsSend what you have: the brief, the RFT, the wish list and the old site. We read all of it before the workshops and return with a question list.

02WorkshopsOne or two sessions with the people who will own the site: marketing, IT, the editors, procurement where it applies.

03Audit where there is a siteWhere there is an existing site, we review its code and data using the same checks as our site audit. The plan starts from those findings.

04The document and the price

We present the architecture, scope, risks, acceptance method, fixed price and dates, then hand over the document. The Discovery fee is credited in full if you build with us.

What Discovery leads to

Discovery can lead to Custom, Growth or remediation.

About one in three Discovery projects ends with a recommendation for a Growth Build or for fixing the existing site. Custom is recommended only where the scope requires it.

  • A Custom build from €15,000, on a hand-built block theme with custom functionality and integrations, with the Discovery fee credited.
  • A Growth Build at €7,995, where Discovery shows the brief fits a fixed scope after all.
  • A migration with the plan already written, priced as a build.
  • A remediation plan for the existing site where replacement is unnecessary.
  • A tender or procurement response, with the architecture and price lifted straight into it.

Straight answers

What people ask about Discovery.

Why pay for a proposal?

Complex projects cannot be priced reliably from a short call. Discovery gives you a documented scope and fixed price, and the fee is credited if you build with us.

Can we take the document to another agency?

Yes. It is written so another team can build from it. If their price is better, use it.

How long does it take?

Two to three weeks from the first workshop, depending on how many people need to be in the room and whether there is an existing site to audit.

Who needs to be involved?

Whoever will own the site afterwards. Marketing, IT or security, the editors, and procurement or finance where the project has to pass through them.

Is the price fixed afterwards?

The price is fixed for the documented scope for 60 days. Any later scope change is priced in writing before work starts on it.

We already have a brief. Do we still need this?

Send it. If it answers the Discovery questions, we can quote from it. Otherwise, we will tell you what remains open.
